Bride of Frankenstein (1935) - Monster & the Blind Hermit

We were discussing the Beatitudes in The Dead Theologian Society this morning, focusing on "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matt 5:5)  This particular video clip from the Bride of Frankstein was mentioned by Joe Novenson as a wonderful portrayal of Christian Charity.  It has some very Catholic overtones, have a look, see what you think, and be sure listen to the music and watch for the Crucifix!  Please post a comment or two for me!

  1. Re: Bride of Frankenstein I was reminded of a couple of things. Contentment follows gratitude and contentment can be found from the simple needs that God meets/provides--- shelter, food drink, friendship.
Also the hermit's handicap (blindness)fostered blessings. He was above prejudging or forming an opinion from a first impression.
I think that the hermit recognized his brokenness(loneliness) and was therefore able to recognize the brokenness in another (Frankenstein's loneliness). He was able to move from this point to sharing/serving and expressing gratitude to God and his new friend.
This further serves as a reminder that we are not expected to go at this thing(life) alone but be open, vulnerable and willing to commune with others.
